Howlin' Whale is a cetaceous harmonica player, composer, and vocalist.
Born in Massachusetts, she grew up in a swampy forest next to a train track and a shooting range. While the rails' haunting rattles and moans sang of other worlds, perennial gunfire infused her with rhythms of mortality. A fateful encounter with whales while swimming in the ocean set her compass eternally seaward, enchanted by the mysterious music of dark waters. These sounds are the roots of the Whale, seated deep in her soulful voice and howling through her harmonica.
In 2012, Howlin’ Whale made her recording debut on harmonica for the song “On My Time” with the band Sea At Last. They joined forces again to compose “Castle,” which Chris Douridas premiered on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. Next Howlin’ Whale hosted Made In Laurel Canyon, a house concert series that brought musicians, filmmakers, writers, dancers, actors, puppeteers, and industry magicians together for evenings of live music and revelry in her living room. Playing stages throughout the West Coast and Texas, the Whale honors reggae, blues, and Hip Hop.
Howlin' Whale’s debut EP Breach is set for release in 2016, featuring her lead single "Run" out now on GYPSYPOP RECORDS, co-produced with renowned Kush Audio wizard Gregory Scott aka UBK. A woman of many hats, Howlin' Whale's luscious voice, intense love affair with harmonica, and dizzying wealth of locker-room tales feed her music with equal parts ferocity, honesty, and joy.
